Quick and Easy Tips to Help Organize Your Garage

Is your garage a mess? If so, then you certainly aren’t alone. Having a nice and organized garage is the goal of most people, but turning that goal into reality tends to be difficult. Many people simply end up turning their garage into a makeshift storage space that has boxes of books, unused athletic gear, old clothes, and everything else that doesn’t seem to have a place in the house. Disorganization tends to reign supreme, but it doesn’t have to be that way! Getting the garage into shape and making it a functional space again is possible with a few organization ideas and tips that you can use for your space. They are easy to use, and they are a cost effective approach to organization.

Suspended Shelves

When you think about your garage, don’t just think about the floor space. Think about all of the air space that’s off the floor. A simple way to give even a small garage more space for organizing is to install some suspended shelves from the roof, as well as the walls. Just make sure that the location of the shelves doesn’t interfere with the opening and closing of the garage door. The suspended shelves are a great way to store items that you do not use very often. For example, you can keep all of your holiday decorations here so they are out of the way until you need them next season.

Gardening and Building Station

Whether you like to garden or you love your tools and enjoy building, you can create a separate station in the garage just for your hobby. It helps to keep all of your items in a single spot too. One of the best ways to keep all of your tools organized is to use a pegboard. You can find these in different sizes, and they are easy to affix to the walls in your garage. You may also want to buy or make a workbench. If it has some drawers in it, it’s even better. This will give you places to store more of your items so you never have to worry about where you might have misplaced your most important items.

If you don’t want to use a pegboard, of if you have some extra tools, then you might want to use a magnetic strip. It can hold shears, screwdrivers, paintbrushes, and other lightweight items with metal components on them. Look them up here

Hang Up the Shovels and Other Tools

If you have shovels, rakes, hoes, and similar items, then you know that they look terrible just leaned up against the wall. They have a tendency to fall as well. Buying or creating a rack to keep your shovels, rakes and other tools in order and off the ground simply looks better.

Reusing Jars

If you have peanut butter jars that you usually recycle or throw away, think about some of the other ways that you can use these to help organize your garage. Clean them out and then use them to keep screws, nails, nuts, bolts, and all manner of small items that tend to get lost and misplaced in the garage. Make sure that you label the jars for the items inside. Also, use plastic jars instead of glass. Broken glass in the garage is never a good idea.

Suspend Your Bikes

If you have a bike, or several, you can get them off the ground with a wall-mounted rack. They are an easy way to add a bit more floor space to your garage while keeping the bikes safe. It’s better for the tires, and you do not have to worry about other items in the garage inadvertently damaging the bike.
